The John Paul Hammerschmidt Lecture Series features critically-acclaimed guest speakers from around the globe with varied experiences and backgrounds. The Lecture Series is open to the public and free of charge.

Former Congressman John Paul Hammerschmidt passed away in early 2015. His son, John Arthur Hammerschmidt serves on the Lecture Committee and carries forward Mr. Hammerschmidt’s efforts to bring renowned speakers to the Harrison area at no charge to the public.

Former NBA and Razorback basketball player Sidney Moncrief will visit Harrison to speak on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at North Arkansas College in the John Paul Hammerschmidt Lecture Series. The lecture will be open to the public free of charge and will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the John Paul Hammerschmidt Conference Room on the south campus. 

Sidney will share personal stories of playing basketball for the Razorbacks, the Milwaukee Bucks and coaching. 

Sidney is the sixth of seven children by Orel Moncrief and Bernice Perkins. He is a product of the Little Rock Public School system. Coach Moncrief earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arkansas. He also earned NCAA Basketball All-American honor as he led the U of A men’s basketball team to the final four during his years at the university.

Coach Moncrief has served on the Board of Directors for a Fortune 500 company and as president of various retail auto sales businesses. 

Coach Moncrief is a member of the exclusive James Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and a five-time NBA All-Star member, a two-time member of the NBA All-Defensive team, a two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and an NBA All-Pro. He is a former college head coach and assistant coach. As a coach, he has served on the coaching staff of the Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, and Milwaukee Bucks. He was also a Beijing Ducks pro team consultant in Beijing, China.

Sidney is the author of ten books, the latest four being The G.R.I.T. Factor in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, The G.R.I.T. Factor in Leadership, The G.R.I.T. Factor in Acts of Kindness, and 13 Game Changing Principles for Living Your Best Life NOW.

He is currently the managing partner of Moncrief One Team. Moncrief One Team is a People Development Company specializing in Team Enhancement, Leadership, Career Readiness, SEL Development, and Diversity-Equity-Inclusion.

He is married to Dr. Takisha Moncrief and has one lovely daughter, Imari, and four wonderful sons, Brett, Jon, Jeffrey, and Jason.
